Classification of Legal and Illegal Drugs
For this assignment, you will differentiate between four classes of drugs, being sure to include a discussion of both legal and illegal drugs for each class.
The classes you will be differentiating are:
stimulants (nicotine, caffeine, cocaine, amphetamine, and methamphetamine)
depressants (alcohol, heroin, barbiturates, and benzodiazepines)
hallucinogens (LSD, PCP, ecstasy, and ketamine)
marijuana
Your assignment should include the definition of each class and a comparison of the various classes with the different types of drugs. You should also pay attention to the addictive quality of each drug.
Finally, you should discuss the government’s decision in classifying each drug and determine whether the classification continues to be warranted today or if new research provides a rationale for changing the category.
Your paper should be 3 to 5 pages of written text. (The title page and reference page do not count in the page minimum.)
