Welcome to your Health Psychology Observation Project! This will be your opportunity to
carefully examine what you have learned from the textbook and apply it to actual test subjects.
Choose one test subject from anywhere in the community, male or female ages ranging from 8 to
17. (Subject can be children, sibling or relative) Please gain proper approval to speak with
subject if not a relative or friend.
Once subject has been identified, introduce yourself and the only information that should be
obtained is the first name and age.
All subjects should be assessed with your knowledge learned from the book.
Monday- Write a description of your subject-features, emotions, attitudes, type of personality
and willingness to participate in activity. Observe the mental status and overall mental health of
your subject.
Tuesday- Interview the subject and during that time emphasize health as a personal priority. Ask
questions about nutrition, staying active and in shape, brushing teeth, body image, self-esteem
and stress about school. Record answers and formulate responses.
Wednesday- Analyze the interrelationship of physical, mental and social health of your subject.
Observe and record how your subject is acting when they are alone, with their siblings and with
staff or parents. Are they maintaining friendships and being considerate of others. Please
provide details of each event.
Thursday- Observe your subject for the final time and write a complete report of the week’s
events. Please always include accurate and detailed descriptions including a picture of the test
subject. Include the questions the questions that are asked. Explain how this assignment related
to your own personal, educational and professional achievement.
