YOUR OWN SELF-DIRECTION PROJECT: STEP 10
As you consider termination, follow these procedures:
1. Make a list of opportunities for practicing your newly learned behavior. Rate these opportunities in terms of how likely you are to be naturally reinforced for the new behavior.
2. If you suspect that your new behavior will not be naturally reinforced, continue reinforcing yourself or arrange for reinforcement from others.
3. Find social support for the new behavior.
4. Rate your ability to control the new behavior without a self-modification plan.
5. Program and test for transfer. Practice the behavior in a variety of situations. Continue keeping records.
6. Use problem-solving steps to deal with new difficulties.
7. Practice the new behavior until it is perfect, then practice doing it perfectly. The more you practice after you have reached your goal level, the more likely it is that your behavior will persist.
8. For long-term projects, be ready to reinstate a plan as soon as an unwanted behavior reappears.
Start a happiness project. Select at least two items from the happiness checklist, one easy and one not so, and start planning to make changes.
