Your final paper for the class will be to act as Governor DeSantis’ chief policy
advisor. Governor DeSantis is looking into the next year and wants to know what policy issue he
should focus on and what the solution is. You need to choose a policy that has garnered some
attention in Florida and write a policy brief on it. A policy brief is a summary of an issue, for
example equal pay or minimum wage, the history of the policy in Florida, the options policy
makers have proposed, and your recommendations for which is the best policy option. You must
address the advocates of both sides of the issue. You must include why Governor DeSantis
should pursue this policy change and what the potential political ramifications may be. The
policy brief can be on any topic as long as it is a state level policy. You cannot focus on policy
proposed (or legislated) by the congressional delegation.
