You are to write a term paper of 15-20 pages on establishing an import/export company that has as its primary focus, Brazil. Your job is to research the viability of the business either in Brazil or exporting to Brazil, do a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats), and compile a list of cultural, political, and economic concerns and risks that need to be addressed as a result. If you are going on the trip to Brazil, this will give you first-hand knowledge that you can (and should) incorporate into this paper. If you are not going to Brazil, you need to watch the videos I will provide each day of the trip where I make some notes as to what will be useful to consider.
This type of firm that you will be analyzing for your term paper topic must be approved no later than the week of February 5th (25 points) and an initial list of references is required no later than the week of February 19th (25 points). The list of references need to include information about either doing business in Brazil or exporting to Brazil, including any competitors or suppliers in Brazil, applicable laws, customs, or economic considerations. A literature review consisting of these basic items is required no later than the week of March 11th (50 points), which is Spring Break. All term papers are due on the last day of class, week of April 22nd (100 points) and you will be asked to defend your work in an oral interview on the day of the final, week of April 29th (50 points). The number of points you receive will depend upon the quality of the work product.
