MY: My ideal career is to become an Executive Accountant in a major company, fulfilling my hierarchy of needs while meeting the company’s objective. Accounts are my favorite, and I enjoy working with them, from balancing sheets to complex bookkeeping. I am also an able leader with visions wherever I set my purpose, and therefore this career interests and suits me. I explored LinkedIn Indeed, The IMA Featured Jobs webpage and the SNHU Career page (imanet.org., linked indeed.com., Snuh,edu.). Some of the knowledge and skills that I found relating to my current course included financial analysis, bookkeeping skills and general accounting knowledge. I was grateful that this course had granted me the skills that I would require to pursue my ideal career.
I also found some key terms necessary to acquire the position; I would use them in my resume, interview and cover letter when required. These terms include knowledge of accounting packages, basic accounting terms such as capital, debit and credit, the accounting process and also the professional experience I have acquired while dealing with accounts. Some of the skills I acquired in this course, such as knowing when to give credit and ask for a debt for a company, will be of help in my ideal career. Modules in this course, such as accounts receivable accounts payable and general ledger, will help me determine the company’s financial position, supervise my juniors, and advise the company on financial matters. Topics on taxing, banking, and accounts are also relevant in chasing my ideal career. Therefore, the knowledge and skills I gained in this course have laid a strong foundation for my career as an executive accountant.

Peer 1: What is your ideal career, and what about it interests you?
The career that I have been focusing on is becoming a Program manager. In my current position, I do a lot of work with programs, and assist in any way I can, however, I have always have a deep desire to be more involved in the entirety of the operation.
When exploring job postings related to your ideal career, what knowledge and skills were listed that directly relate to this course?
Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years’ experience in technical leadership, or other relevant work experience.
Experience leading teams on efforts of significant complexity
Discipline experience and/or expertise in Logistics, Operations, and Supply Chain Management
Demonstrated experience in an externally facing role, building customer relationships, leading customer interactions and discussions of a technical and/or strategic nature
Demonstrated program/project management skills or equivalent. Strong understanding of latest Program Management discipline requirements and procedures.
Experience working with Integrated Master Schedules and Risk Management
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Secret Security Clearance.

Were there certain modules, topics, or skills from this course that you feel were especially relevant for your ideal career?
I found the milestone projects to be the most beneficial for my own personal use and my future career. Being able to look at all the transactions, and being able to sort them out and organize them is incredibly important. When it comes to handling the money for programs, you need to ensure that everything is 100% and that you can generate reports to show projection data. When you are in a meeting with directors and VPs, they want to see accurate data, quick data and data that is easily understood. When someone has a question during the meeting, you need to ensure that the data is accurate, so you can easily answer the question. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to participate in this exercise, and I will certainly remember the knowledge I have gained from them.
Peer 2: I have thought about this discussion post for quite a while and I am stuck. Right now I do not have an ideal career in mind. I have what I think I want to do but I don’t know if I can make it happen. I have been working in the IT field for over 20 years and I want to get out of it. I am tired of corporate America. I want to do something where my actions make a difference and more than just lining the stockholders’ pockets with higher stock values. I am planning on becoming a teacher and specifically a junior high math teacher. I do not think that any of the knowledge and skills learned in the course would be able to be transferred easily.
If I were to stay in the IT field then I would make sure that I take away how we learned to budget and analyze the results. I would also take away the knowledge that there may be many ways to look at or even report things but sometimes they may be an unethical thing to do.
