Post a one-page (200-250 words) analysis of a poem by William Blake, Emily Dickinson or Robert Frost.
First, read their poems linked in the Required Readings module.
Then, choose one poem that resonates with you the most and analyze it in your posting.
Your goal should be twofold: (a) to explain the poem to your readers and (b) to share your own reaction to the poem and its relevance to you. Both goals are equally important. Personal opinions do not replace text-based analysis, but pure analysis without a personal reaction defeats the purpose of reading literature.
Please consider the following questions:
What is the poem about? What does it say on a literal level? What is its deeper meaning? Is this deeper meaning communicated through the use of literary devices such as symbolism, special imagery or repetition? Show how. Why have you chosen this poem? What sort of reaction does the poem evoke in you? In what way do you relate to it? What is your favorite line? Why does this line register with you?
Please remember that these are just suggestions. Feel free to approach the poem from your own unique perspective.
