Read Chustz and Larson’s case study entitled “ Implementing Change on the Front Lines: A Management Case Study of West Feliciana Parish Hospital” that appeared in Public Administration Review of Sept/Oct 2006. What change did hospital leadership want to make and why? What departments included the front-line implementers? How well did implementation go in this case? What are some of the things the authors recommend to improve future implementation of the policy? Ideally, what kind of information would be helpful to know after corrective measures were presumably put in place? The authors use a top-down approach; could there be other situations in health care where more extensive bottom-up front-line worker participation both before and after implementation might be helpful to ensure sound policy from the top and successful implementation at the front-line?
