Topic: Study habits and effects on memory recollection
Thesis: As I reflect on my academic journey throughout my time here at Grambling, I noticed a pattern as it pertained to my study habits and grades on exams.
It is often encouraged by professors to develop “good study habits” to do well on assignments. I personally have looked into various methods of studying and it seems that they have one common denominator: time. The students who score the highest are the ones who spend the most time with the material. However, in my own habits, I’ve noticed that it’s easier to retain information if you take breaks while studying, rather than not taking any. How can we determine the best method of studying information so the information can be retained and recalled more efficiently during exams?
My research proposal is that we take a group of students, and divide them into 3 groups:
Group A) students who studied daily for 3 hours straight with no breaks
Group B) students who studied daily for a total of 3 hours, but took 15 minute breaks every 30 minutes
Group C) students who crammed in new information 3 hours before the exam
I’m interested in seeing which group would have the highest average scores vs lowest average scores
