This new section of your Story Map should have three primary Headings: Vulnerabi

April 29, 2024

This new section of your Story Map should have three primary Headings:
Vulnerability and Resilience (and the title of the Chapter you read for Week 3)
Equity (and the title of the Chapter you read for Week 4)
A Location: a specific place where your chosen Environmental Hazard will be mapped.
Under the first two Headings:
Create 3-4 “slides” or sections (total) that attempt to explain one or more subtopics that was featured in that specific chapter. Slides/sections should include 2-4 sentences each and should be informative enough that we can understand the subtopic without reading it.
Content must be written in your own words, not copied and pasted from the chapters. Approach this as if you were giving someone a presentation on the chapter content. Use in-text citations with chapter and page numbers, e.g. (14: 215) when referring to specific facts, figures, or ideas.
You may be reflexive (you can use “I” and write using the first-person) and can discuss aspects that were interesting, provocative, complex or difficult to understand. Your goal is to teach someone new to the topics a little of what you learned.
include 2-3 sentences in a separate slide/section to introduce the risk of your hazard in this specific place.
– The overall design of your Story Map is up to you. It should be easy to follow while containing the following:
Multiple sections with appropriate headings that contribute to a robust discussion of the two chapters and location, supported by evidence (i.e., research you conduct independently, relying on credible sources).
Inclusion of concepts/themes/ideas related to the assigned content for Module II that convey a deep and substantive connection to the course material.
Sample content for one slide/section:
Slide I: Vulnerability and Resilience (Chapter 11: Social Vulnerability and Resilience to Environmental Hazards)
“Group and individual vulnerability is an obvious focus in a Chapter dedicated to vulnerability and resilience, but we’re not getting the entire picture if we don’t look at larger, even global structures of power. While some of the inequity we see in the world is historical, related to colonialism and the systems and relationships these processes inspired, more recent patterns of debt-servitude and resource exploitation are fundamental when considering differences between places that are considered more or less developed  (11: 174). The degradation and pollution of local environments and flows of mass migration from rural to urban areas in the Global South are examples of the manifestation of these power structures.”
Sample Map and Introduction:
“I chose to focus on the Philippines for my location as the country is situated such that it experiences a range of overlapping hazards. This map shows most of the northern islands overlayed with the impact of recent major earthquakes in 2018 on populations and households affected near Manilla and Cebu. The Philippines is considered a developing country and continues to have issues with poverty, unemployment, ethnic violence and political unrest. Adding earthquakes, tropical cyclones, and disease epidemics to this mix means the lower classes and ethnic minorities are particularly vulnerable.”
Notes:
-I will create a map for this section I just need you to provide me with text and I will search the images I just need you to provide me with the text
– I will provide you with the chapters in the attachment
