This assignment provides you the opportunity to think like a hacker. Autopilot functions are used to automate tasks for the flight crew, like maintaining an altitude or course. This allows the flight crew to perform higher-level tasks without having to keep their hands constantly gripping the controls (imagine having to keep your hands on the controls the entire flight from New York to Los Angeles).
Write a short paper of 2–3 pages in which you will complete the following requirements:
Identify the specific autopilot/avionic system you plan to attack and generally how that system works.
Explain how you, as a cyberattacker, plan to compromise the system. How would you gain access, and what actions would you take? What cybersecurity principles would you compromise on the system?
Switch roles and become the defender. How would you detect/prevent a cyberattack on the specific autopilot/avionic system?
