The International Court of Justice (ICJ) serves as the principal judicial organ of the United Nations and plays a crucial role in the peaceful resolution of disputes between states. This paper examines the function and effectiveness of the ICJ in addressing inter-state conflicts, highlighting its jurisdiction, procedural mechanisms, and landmark cases. Through an analysis of selected case studies, the paper evaluates the Court’s impact on international relations and its contribution to the development of international law. Furthermore, the paper explores the challenges and criticisms faced by the ICJ, including issues of compliance and enforcement of its judgments. By understanding the strengths and limitations of the ICJ, this study aims to provide insights into the potential of judicial resolution in promoting global peace and stability.
