The books, Lieutenant Nun and the Trial of Tempel Anneke, are about the experiences of two women who lived in the seventeenth century. Although the two lives are very different, compare their experiences as women in early modern Europe. What similarities do you see? What differences? How does the fact that they are women affect their lives, in other words, how does their gender determine their fate? What do we learn about the lives of seventeenth-century women from these two accounts? Be sure to use specific examples from the texts to support your arguments.
Answer the questions in a clear, organized essay of 5 pages (double-spaced, paginated, one-inch margins, 12-point font). This is NOT a research paper but an analysis based on a close reading of the particular text. Do not use footnotes or endnotes; simply give the page number in parentheses each time you cite directly from the text. Do not use the editor’s introduction in your argument. Do not summarize the book, analyze it. Again, this is not a research paper; the only source you cite should be the text itself.
You will need to read Lieutenant Nun and the Trial of Tempel Anneke
