Students will work in a team to examine the impact of a new technology or innovation on a firm/industry of your choice. Based on your analysis, you will write a report and also do a presentation in class. Each student should write at least 5 pages.  Your report and presentation may examine the following areas depending on the chosen subject:
Examine the structure of the industry and the origins and evolution of a new technology/innovation.
Analyze how a firm or firms developed or utilized such technology or innovation, its advantages and disadvantages, diffusion, innovation type, etc.
Investigate the ecosystem, use of modularity, standards battle, winner-take-it-all vs. winner-take-most markets.
Analyze the impact that this new technology or innovation may be having or could potentially have in the future on society, i.e., its practical implications.
The importance of timing of entry and defining strategic direction
How the firm or the firms choose an innovation project to pursue
Firm collaboration strategies and protection of innovation
Organizing for innovation and managing new product development process
New product development teams and crafting a deployment strategy
Present your conclusion about the role, impact, and future uses of a new technology/innovation.
