Students are required to select an event or human historical figure from New Mexico History.
Students must have a minimum of four scholarly secondary sources that significantly discuss the selected figure or topic. Secondary sources must include 1 monograph/book and 2 articles from professional journals. Students must use at least one primary source. The sources may be electronic or non-electronic; however, the quality and reliability of sources will be assessed. Sources should not include Wikipedia, answers.com, or other similar sources; using these types of sources will lower the student’s grade on this assignment.
Write a thoughtful and scholarly research-based essay about the selected person or event. The paper must include a cover sheet, the body of the paper, which should be from five to eight pages, and a Works Cited (the cover page and Works Cited do not count in the required length of the paper). The final page of the paper must be at least ¾ of a page to count as a page. Be sure to use Times New Roman font, size 12, with one-inch margins at the top, bottom, left, and right. Lines should be double-spaced. The final draft of the paper must include correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Students must list the sources in the Works Cited. A minimum of four information sources is required. All sources must be cited within the body of the work; per Turabian style guide, a 40-point deduction will be exacted for failure to use in-text citing. Citations may be in Turabian–see Turabian Quick Reference Guide.pdf.
