South Asian Americans have become the second largest group in the United States & is considered one of the fastest growing ethnic groups. This chapter discusses their cultural tendencies, mental health needs, & optimal ways of approaching them as clients(Diller, J., 2016. Cultural Diversity. 8th ed. Boston: Cengage).
Given that South Asian Americans may be more receptive to those therapies that appear to be more concrete, solution oriented, & “medical” in nature such as cognitive behavioral therapy, identify &  explore the following areas:
1) How would you build rapport with a South Asian American client?
2) How would your personal style of therapy be used in session?
3) How might your cultural differences and/or similarities play a role in the therapeutic relationship?
