Select a region in the United States and a specific time frame within either past, present or future and argue why it is the most important region. Importance could be political, economic, environmental, etc. There is no correct answer – you just need to pick an argument and explain it. The paper needs to be 3-5 pages. 9 The paper needs a bibliography – the bibliography does not count towards the 3-5 pages. If you are not familiar with what a bibliography is, ask me, the writing center or Google. Chose a format for your bibliography (APA, MLA, etc) and stick with it. Learn from the writing center or Google how to properly cite. Citations are not just direct quotes but also ideas you use from writings you have read. Footnote or in-text citations are proper for quotes AND ideas. If you work with the writing center (see below), you will earn extra credit. I highly recommend using the writing center for this assignment – make sure to schedule an appointment in advance. Use what you learned in the lecture, readings, films as well as your own research. You need to have at least 3 outside sources for your paper – outside sources mean sources I did not reference in lectures nor assign as assignments (hint: a great place to look for outside sources would be the bibliographies of the readings I assigned). If you argue that a specific region will be the most important in the future, explain what industry, environmental factor(s), cultural phenomenon will make it the most important and why.
