Research and find an ekphrastic poet (someone who has written a poem based on a piece of art). Include a biography of your chosen poet. Put that biography into your own words. Cite your sources. (1-2 pages, double spaced)
Find and annotate 1 poem by your chosen poet. Be sure to consider a variety of poetic devices, including:
-simile
-metaphor
-personification
-rhyme and rhythm
-sensory imagery (appealing to the five senses???? sight, hearing, smell, touch, sometimes taste)
-alliteration
-form and structure
-symbolism
-setting
-speaker’s voice and perspective
*You might also consider things like….
….use of the elements and weather, movement, time of day, seasons…
(Research to find other poetic devices, to supplement and enhance your annotation).
In a 1-2 page, double spaced, typed, journal entry, reflect on why you chose the poem you did. What drew you to choosing this poem and poet?
PART B:
Choose a visual artist whose work you admire. Create two poems that reflect the essence of the visual art itself. Remember to “look beyond the frame” of the piece. Imagine what happens beyond the actual image. Write about what is happening outside of that frame. Use a persona if you’d like, taking on the voice of a character and imagining their life. Be sure to employ a variety of poetic devices so that your poems become literary works of art.
