Predict a war. Pick a current case, then make an argument about why war is likely to happen. You may address and rebut counterarguments, but bear in mind that it is not possible to engage all possible theories or arguments in a paper of this length. If you are uncomfortable affirmatively predicting a war, you may alternatively lay out one important reason why a potential war is more likely to occur than would be the case if that cause were absent. Please consult with me if you are having trouble selecting a case. You are required to cite relevant course readings for this paper. You must also utilize and cite at least five additional sources about your case (books and articles are preferable to blog posts and encyclopedias). If you wish to provide policy recommendations on how to prevent a war by ameliorating or superseding the potential cause that you have identified, you may do so only in the conclusion section of the paper (optional). Some wars – and some causes of war – are more preventable than others.
