Poster Guidelines

Poster presentations and presenters must adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Digital posters can be created using any application, but they must be static and one page. They cannot contain any moving images or animations, and no multiple slides.
    1. Common applications include: PowerPoint, Canva, Adobe Express
  2. Use a layout to maximize your screen size.
  3. Poster content must include the following elements (in boxes or shapes, or something else– designer’s choose):

Box 1: Title

    • Program Title, Author (student), Class, Institution, Semester, Date

Box 2: Background

    • Health issue, priority population, program location, nature, and magnitude of the health issue (include 1-2 supportive statistics and cite the source!)

Box 3: Outcomes

    • Goal, impact objectives, and outcome objective(s)

Box 4: Program

    • Theory, strategies, and activities

Box 5: Ethics

    • Ethical considerations (minimum 2)

Box 6: Evidence

    • References should be included for all content (included images)

Box 7: Reflection

    • Lessons learned through this project – about yourself, the health issue, priority population, health promotion … what impressed or moved you?
  1. Content should be well organized and visually appealing.
    • Posters need to balance brevity and depth. There must be adequate detail and description, without overuse of text.
  1. Use of visuals is expected. Visuals should enhance and meaningfully draw attention.

Oral Presentation Guidelines

Students are expected to prepare a 3 minute presentation providing an overview of the proposed program. The oral presentation should include an overview of the problem and a summary of the solution being proposed. Students should augment the information included in the poster. (Simply reading the poster does not meet the expectations.) Students will be asked to deliver the oral presentation in class during the final exam in full and in part. In addition to the prepared remarks, students must be prepared to respond to questions about the proposed program. The oral presentation will demonstrate students’ mastery of knowledge and understanding of the problem and proposed solution. The oral presentation needs to be recorded and submitted with the final poster on Canvas.
