Please submit these 3 things.
1. Opportunity Model Portfolio (based on what you learned in Module 3)
The main parts of an opportunity model include: (a) an executive summary (no more than 1 page), (b) an opportunity model canvas (again, only 1 page), and (c) an implementation timeline (typically 2-3 pages). These are all due here. See examples of all these deliverables in Moodle.
2. Customer Discovery Materials (based on what you learned in Module 4)
At a minimum, please turn in (1) a Sample Customer Persona, and (2) Customer Discovery Summary. Feel free to submit other things that support your conclusions.
3. Opportunity Pitch (based on what you learned in Module 5) For this write down what should be said in the video instead of recording!
Pitches should be no longer than 2 minutes. How you create and present your pitch is up to you (except, no voiceover PPT slides). The pitches should, at least, touch on:
– about 30 seconds…What’s the OPPORTUNITY? What are you going to do to create VALUE?
– about 90 seconds…What evidence do you have regarding CUSTOMER DISCOVERY for this opportunity?
Tips on the video: Most students choose to videotape their pitch using a mobile device or computer for recording the pitch. Some students use a video camera, or other mobile device to record the video. Any route you choose is fine. We just need to get a clear picture of you, and it needs to have good audio. To share it via Moodle, I recommend either saving the pitch as a file and dropping it in, or uploading it to youtube.com and simply providing the link.
Please keep in mind that the main goal here is opportunity evaluation! Your idea matters less than the process! Do a great job evaluating your idea and you will get a solid grade, even if your research tells us that your idea is not viable! Again, it is the process of evaluating an idea that we are most interested in!!! And, DATA are required (see below).
Best, Jeff

a. Opportunity Model Materials- this has 3 parts:
(i) an executive summary (no more than 1 page)
(ii) an opportunity model canvas (again, only 1 page)
(iii) an implementation timeline (typically 2-3 pages)
b. Customer Discovery Materials- this also has 3 parts:
(i) Customer Persona- –the customer persona is a short summary of who you think is your target market
(ii) Data collection from customer interviews and/or surveys (YES, actually talking with and/or doing a survey with potential customers)– I know that the COVID-19 pandemic has made it more difficult to reach people in-person…so, perhaps keep these revised targets in mind…The data collection represents actual responses from people whom you contacted and asked about your product/service [if you are a Business-to-Business (B2B) then reach out to 5-10 businesses, if you are a Business-to-Customer (B2C), then try to reach 25-30 direct customers). To be clear, you must have some data regarding your customers…usually, folks do an online survey or conduct a focus group.
(iii) Pro forma financials (if applicable)–If you are serious about doing this idea, then do the pro forma financials. Otherwise, don’t worry about it.
c. 2 Minute Pitch Video– I am your audience–try to convince me that you have identified and explored an opportunity for value creation…tell me these things:
(i) What’s the PROBLEM/ISSUE/OPPORTUNITY? and What’s your SOLUTION?
(ii) What VALUE are you providing to WHICH STAKEHOLDERS (i.e., customer persona)? and What makes this opportunity SPECIAL and how will you achieve VALUE CREATION?
(iii) What EVIDENCE (DATA) do you have that VALIDATES the merit of your idea? NOTE—this is based on the evidence you gathered in Modules 3 & 4. You MUST have some evidence (data) of customer interaction here…
In order to do these deliverables well, you’ll need to draw on what you’ve learned in Modules 3 and 4…these deliverables take a long time to develop (i.e., collecting data, etc.). So, please continue working on these…
