Gun control is a controversial issue in the US; domestic violence advocates have longed called for 2nd ammendment rights to be restricted for persons convicted of domestic violence, as owning a gun is highly correlated with domestic partner homicide. According to article what was the boyfriend loophole? Why were DV advocates calling to have it removed in the latest round of gun legislation in congress? What was their reasoning? Who oppossed removing this loophole and why? What did Congress ultimately do? Do you think retaining/removing this loophole makes a difference with respect ot domestic violence homicide victmization? Why or why not? Can you recommend other policies to keep abused partners from being murdered by the abusers?
