Would a federal data privacy or security law help prevent data breach fatigue? Why or why not?
I guess this discussion couldn’t be more timely as I have been receiving messages from AT&T and credit monitoring systems about my personal data being available on the dark web thanks to the huge data breach at AT&T (Brooks, 2024).  My response to it is: argh, not again!  I’ve been involved in a couple of breaches now and my free credit reporting/monitoring opportunities seem to be growing substantially.
My own opinion is that a federal data privacy and security law would standardize data breach assessment and communications requirements.  However, I doubt that would prevent data breach fatigue because a standardized law is unlikely to lower the number of events or reports about those events.  In my own case, I am just a bit tired of having to lock credit report accounts and do the research required to keep my personal data healthy.  Unless there is some remedy for that, I am not convinced a federal law will help with fatigue.  I am not against a federal law to solve other issues, so I am not saying it would be a bad thing.  It is just not a solution for fatigue.

Agree or Disagree? Why or Why Not?
When considering the implications of a patent case, there are several things to take into consideration. For example, patents are designed to protect inventors by granting exclusive rights to said inventions. But, if patents are overly broad, they can limit competition and new innovations- which leads to a monopoly within the industry.
Patent cases with broad implications can limit the availability for new innovations that have the potential to greatly impact the medical community. There needs to be a balance of inventor protection but also the ability to expand and build upon past inventions which have the potential to greatly impact the medical community and/or humans’ access to life-saving technologies. A balance must be found between inventors, public welfare, and innovation- each case should be evaluated individually with a focus on potential impacts on society as a whole.
