Essay idea for Tennessee Williams’s play A Streetcar Named Desire, p. 1843. Blanche has a
psychotic break triggered by the rape, but details given throughout the play suggest that
Blanche always suffered from an acute mental illness that directly affected her romantic
relationships, workplace behaviors, and physical health. Do some research on personality
disorders and hypochondria. Play the role of Blanche’s psychologist at the play’s end, and
write a paper in which you list Blanche’s symptoms, making sure to include both a diagnosis
and treatment plan for her.
In my watching of the film I made some notes that I would like in the paper. I am certain hse has histrionic disorder and possibly Narcissitic personality disorder.
