Play is an essential medium for preschool teachers to deliver conceptual concepts to young children.  Play reaches across all three domains as children learn and explore together.   All children like to play which allows them to explore and discover concepts in a natural way.   The discoveries made through play will become more concrete to them versus the concepts taught through a teacher’s views.  The concepts learned through the discoveries in early childhood will be the foundation from which they will build as they progress into the school-age years and beyond.  This is the time in which language is fully developing and the brain’s language pathways are fully open.  The why phase is in full swing and there are more questions than answers, children want to know why the dirt is brown and the sky is blue.  These questions are a great thing and are the catalyst for learning new information and opening up new synapses in the brain.  
With play being such an inaugural part of a young child’s life for this assignment you will discover and play just like a young child would.  First, you are to PLAY in these 4 ways………
Make something (play dough,  slime, cookies,….)
Play something (get together with some friends and play something, tag, chase, dress-up, house, blocks, cars,……)
Read something ( find the child’s book you remember as a child and read it), then read it again and again
Do something (do your own dance, clean, make an art project, …..)
After completing each task analyze what you did.  Write a two-page summary of your experience, what you discovered, how you played, and also, use the book to support the developmental aspects that were supported and you observed through these play activities.  Discuss how play affects development at this phase and why play is so important to their day.
