Overview
What vulnerabilities does your computer have? Have your programs been updated with the latest patches? Search through the National Vulnerability Database (NVD)/NISTLinks to an external site. and find a vulnerability with a CVSS Severity score of medium, high, or critical that impacts (or could have impacted) a system you use. For example, if you use Google Chrome, you could use a vulnerability that impacts Google Chrome.
Write a short paper of 2–3 pages in which you will complete the following requirements:
Identify the specific vulnerability (ensure you include the CVE number) and the software/system that impacts using the NVD.
Explain how this vulnerability would allow a cyberattacker to plan to compromise the system. How would they gain access, and what actions would they take? What cybersecurity principles would they compromise on the system?
Switch roles and become the defender. How would you detect/prevent a cyberattack on the system? How would you verify that you had patched the vulnerability?
Evaluate the effectiveness of the NVD to prevent cyberattacks. Could the information in this database be used to mitigate a possible issue?
