Objective: This assignment is a long form critical thinking analysis of a theme, chosen by the student, and how that theme is represented, reinforced, or demonstrated in a film chosen by the student. 
Format: The student is to write a formal argumentative essay, 1500 words, that does a close reading of a film of their choosing (My choice is Twilight Breaking dawn part 1) and uses said text as evidence to represent their chosen theme. There should be film synopsis, but it should not go over 250 words. Overlong synopsis will result in severe grade penalties. This essay is to be composed using MLA formatting.  These conventions can be found on the course’s Canvas page. 
Optional: The student may also include an example or two from texts previously screened throughout the course, if applicable. 
Optional 2: The student is not required to utilize outside sources, but is encouraged to include any and all research materials they find pertinent to their analysis.  These sources must be cited correctly with both parenthetical references and on the works cited page. 
Optional 3: The student may choose to compose this assignment in mixed media format (presentation, short film, diorama, etc.), but this needs to be approved by the instructor before work begins and the student must describe how this project is the equivalent of 1500 written words.
