Cultural Immersion Project/Presentation
This project consists of 4 parts.
Part I – Interview
Choose an area of multiculturalism (e.g. ethnicity, language, socioeconomic status sexual orientation, and/
or physical exceptionality).  Sue & Sue (2016) Chapters 14-21 provide detailed information on several of the groups you might choose.  Do not choose a person in your culture. 
Interview an individual or family from that culture. Please include your interview questions and responses.  Before the interview, read the instructions for your paper and presentation so that you obtain the necessary information.
Part II – Culture Immersion Activity
Attend an event or activity (festival, church service, homecoming, conference, family activity) of the chosen group.  It is important that you choose an activity that is unfamiliar to you and promotes introspection about an attitude or belief you have held. If you choose a person with a disability, attend a public event as a person with that disability (i.e. in a wheelchair, blind simulation). 
Part III – Written Evidence of Culture Immersion
Write one to two pages reflecting your interview.  Which culture did you choose?  Who did you interview?  Where was the interview held?  What did they tell you?
Write 5-7 pages discussing the culture itself, your experience in the culture, and your reactions to it.  Ensure that you include the following:
Characteristics and Strengths
Family Structure
Cultural and Spiritual Values
Specific Challenges
Expectations Regarding Counseling
Reflections of Your Experience & Implications for working with this population.  
Your paper should include at least 3 scholarly resources. 
Part IV – Powerpoint Presentation
Your presentation should mirror your paper and include pictures of your participation in the activity and artifacts of the culture.
