Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein Illustrates the theme of conflicts between self-interest and the interests of society. The novel analyzes the consequences of science going wrong and how it would affect society. The theme is being explored though the characters like the creature and Victor Frankenstein. Dr.Frankenstein desires to create the monster however, not creating a mate for the creature. Brought up the questions as to why Victor doesn’t want the creature to mate or make another creation. Another question that could be considered is what ideas about self interest and group interest are being presented in Victor’s decision to destroy the mate? Dr. Frankenstein already put himself and the society in danger and by creating another monster he would put the society more in danger. Victor Frankenstein self interest considering his moral president overthrow group interest in this matter
