April 6, 2024

In this assignment, you will write a comprehensive review and critically analyze (Deutsch, 2005), (Mahtani, 2004) or (Underwood Marek, 2022). Please choose only one article. The primary focus will be on evaluating the appropriateness, strengths, and limitations of the qualitative methods used in the study and the advancement of new understanding. Your opinion matters. Write yourself in. This is your opportunity to show the breadth and depth of the knowledge you have acquired over the course of the semester.
Assignment Objectives:
To assess the qualitative research methods employed in the peer reviewed journal article.
To evaluate the appropriateness of the chosen methods in addressing the research question and objectives.
To identify the strengths and limitations of the qualitative approach in the context of the study. How did the researcher’s positionality affect the study. Would the fieldwork, analysis or outcomes have been substantially different if you had undertaken the same project?
To offer potential alternative approaches. How would these changes affect the results? What modifications would need to be made? What new knowledges would be created.
Review and Research Question:
Provide a brief introduction of the journal article, including the research question, objectives, and the rationale for adopting a particular qualitative method.
Summarize the article’s main findings and how the qualitative method chosen contributed to the study’s outcomes.
Critical Analysis of Qualitative Methods:
Describe the qualitative research methods employed in the study, such as interviews, content analysis, observational research, or questionnaires.
Evaluate the appropriateness of the chosen methods in answering the research question and meeting the study’s objectives.
Does the researcher comment on their positionality, or ethical considerations in relation to the research.
Were there any specific ethical considerations or concerns in the study?
Would other methods have been possible given the research question, sample, or context?
Would you have modified or changed the methodological choices that you believe could strengthen the research outcomes?
Strengths and Limitations:
Identify and discuss the strengths of the qualitative methods used in the study. Was it able to capture rich data, that could help explore or explain complex social phenomena?
Analyze the limitations of the qualitative approach, including potential researcher bias, subjectivity, interpretation, etc. Were there any constraints beyond the researcher’s control. How might they have been better mitigated, if at all.
