In the final phase of the project, you will take what you learned from Part 2 and turn it into action items articulated in a presentation. In other words, Part 2 was the “exploratory phase” of the project, to inform you what academics have found regarding your topic (either specific or general findings).
The annotated bibliography is not to be inserted into the final project; rather, it should inform the types of recommendations you are making. This is not a research paper/presentation (essentially, the receiver of any presentation wants the highlights: “what should I do?,” rather than an academic treatise on the subject). You are not boring your client with a summary of academic work.
Overall, the goal of the project is to present a strategy with specific recommendations related to the themes and issues that you’ve identified in the earlier phases of the project. You will be graded on the following:
– Clarity in identifying the specific strategies for your client.
– Focus and specificity in discussing the specific strategies.
– Presenting evidence to support each strategic decision by relying on previous research from Part 2.
– Critical engagement with the research from Part 2.
– Focus, specificity, and quality of your recommendations.
The final product should be a recorded PowerPoint presentation (~15-20 minutes).
Content – Please make sure your presentation is clear, focused, well-argued, and well-supported by previous research. Here are a few thoughts on how to ensure that you produce a strong presentation that meets the assignment expectations:
Clearly outline the strategy/research that you will discuss. Make sure that the strategy/research question is defined specifically enough that you can reasonably address it. You may want to include questions to guide your work, but that is not required.
Provide enough general background and context on the topic so the audience can understand what you are discussing.
It is often useful to break up the argument into sections.
Above all, be clear, focused, and provide evidence to support your arguments and suggestions. Consider all your arguments against a counter-argument and/or different strategic option.
A works cited slide should be included at the end (or as footnotes during the presentation), but you do not need to address it during the presentation (simply show the slide so I can see your citations).
Importantly, be sure to follow the guidance below on how to craft an effective presentation:
