I want you to write a paragraph where you give an example of a familect that you and your family, or friend group use. How did it originate? Has it persisted beyond a short (1-2 week) time span. Have you brought other people into the meaning of it that were not there originally and have they continued with it? Try to put some thought into this and come up with something more original that you and your family have created rather than just a mispronunciation that has persisted. Those are just very common but I am sure you have many examples. In my family, my daughter refers to the scent beads that you put in your laundry as “laundry boba” because she did not know what they were really called and she likes boba tea and thought they looked similar. Find examples like that. Creativity is rewarded! 🙂
