Homeland Security And The Centers For Disease Control And Prevention
Our
nation and the world has just experienced the largest and most deadly
pandemic in global history, and all of us have vivid and “forever”
memories of what it was like to be masked, have freedom of movement
restricted, experience closed businesses and public accommodations, etc.
During
COVID-19, there were several suggestions made that the Department of
Health and Human Service’s Centers For Disease Control and Prevention be
reassigned from HHS to the Department of Homeland Security. There were
some apparently good reasons for this suggestion, and more than a few
poor ones.
What do you think? Is a worldwide pandemic, killing
millions of people, a national security issue? Was the defense posture
of the U.S. significantly affected by COVID? Would the CDC be any better
prepared to deal with a pandemic on the scale of COVID if it were under
DHS rather than HHS?
