In the video, Mr. Wise says that the majority of adults act more like children when it comes to discussing the issue of death and dying. He says that we deny death and avoid talking about it because we are uncomfortable considering death because it reminds us of our own mortality. Do you agree or disagree with his perspective? Why?
2. With the current pandemic in the world, humans are once again facing deaths of friends, family and loved ones on a much more frequent basis. Do you believe that the rising number of deaths from COVID-19 will produce a cultural and social attitude change towards death in the United States? Will it enable individuals to be more open to discussing death and dying? Why or why not?
3. The concept of a “good death” is defined in many ways. Our text refers to it as dying at home peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Mr. Wise defines it as dying when you are doing something that brings you pleasure (doing what you love to do). Many religions also describe what is considered to be a good death. What is your definition of a “good death”?
