Hello Professor Simmons and class,
Today I will be talking about Emulators. Emulators are “hardware or software platforms that allow a computer system (or a mobile system) to behave like another so that the former – the host – can run applications and services designed for the latter – the guest”(Basumallick,2023,p1). This means that these emulator programs allow for example a Mac application to run on a Windows computer, and or a Windows application to run on a MacBook. People typically use emulators to, “migrate between systems” which means that emulators help people execute software “from one category of systems to another:(Basumallick,2023,p1). Another reason people typically use emulators is to enhance current systems, with emulators they “may offer far more debugging possibilities that hardware, especially in the embedded arena”(Basumallick,2023,p1). Another reason or use of emulators is to preserve systems from the past, by allowing emulators to “enable software form obsolete systems to run on contemporary hardware”(Basumalliock,2023,p1). In my personal life, I’ve used emulators on my PC (personal computer) like Playstation 4 Emulators and or Nintendo Switch Emulators to play PlayStation and Nintendo Switch games on my PC. In conclusion, emulators can be very useful platforms to allow people to do an assortment of different things with their computers.
