FOR MEMO: Identify the selected poem or short story for be examined. Submit complete text of poem or story (or include an online link). Name the work’s author, the year of publication, and the source in which text was published in your first few lines of your memo. Identify what interests you about your selection (in a paragraph or so). Identify elements in the work that you might investigate to provide cultural and historical context (these elements will influence your selections for your annotated bibliography).
FOR ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY (minimum of three sources): these sources should investigate the cultural and/or historical context of your selected piece. Does the text you’ve selected consider issues of gender, race or sexuality? Are there political, economic or environmental references, or allusions to world events? Are there details on the author’s life that may be relevant to a reading of the literature you’ve selected? All of this would be considered as cultural and/or historical context. Each entry on your annotated bibliography should be approx. 200 words.
