The purpose of the Critical Reflection Paper is to reflect on your academic journey as a Justice Studies major and at your internship and make connections to your future career goals, including identifying an justice issue you feel strongly about.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Write a 5-7 page paper (not including Works Cited/References List) to some of the prompts and questions below
Your paper should be 12 point font and double spaced
Your paper should have an introduction, body, and conclusion
Research and reflect on knowledge learned in the classroom and at your internship to support your paper
Identify at least two (2) Justice Studies courses you have taken, include the full name of the academic course(s) to support your paper (include content from Professors, textbooks, or class readings)
Include any other supporting sources about your internship, career, or injustice in a Works Cited/Reference List
Utilize grammar and spell check before submitting your paper
Include a Works Cited/References List in accordance with APA or MLA format
Review the Grading Rubric to familiarize yourself on what your paper will be graded on
Use the questions and prompts below to help guide your paper:
INTRODUCTION:
A clear statement indicating your career interest, your internship, and the related justice issue.
How did you learn about and became passionate about this career?
Why did you select your internship and what have you learned from interning there?
How did you learn about and become passionate about this justice topic?
DISCUSSION:
Make connections between your career, your internship, and your injustice topic.
A general overview of the career, internship, and justice issue
How has your academic experience in the Department of Justice Studies prepared you for your internship, your career, and combating this injustice?
How has your internship prepared you for a career in justice studies? What have you learned from your internship? What skills have you gained?
What has been your greatest accomplishment and challenge at your internship?
How has your internship and coursework helped you make better informed career decisions?
Is this injustice prevalent in your career? at your internship site? How?
3. REFLECTION/SUMMARY:
What are your future career and personal goals and how are they related to the injustice you have identified? How has and will knowledge of this injustice shape your future?
What do you plan to do around the issue? How do you plan to contribute to the world around you in regards to this injustice?
How can or has your internship site or career you selected have an impact on the injustice?
Have you done anything to build awareness or contribute to combatting this injustice already? If yes, what are they? If not, do you have plans to and what are they?
Discuss advice you have for other students who might be considering doing an internship with the same employer. Provide any positives and negatives about the internship site.
