Case #1 – Ramirez v. San Francisco – In July 2025, the San Francisco City Council adopted a reparations plan for the descendants of slaves.  According to NBC News, residents who can demonstrate that they had at least one ancestor who was a slave would be entitled to “[p]ayments of $5 million…, the elimination of personal debt and tax burdens guaranteed annual incomes of at least $97,000 for 250 years and homes in San Francisco for just $1 a family.”  The total cost was estimated at $175 billion dollars.  Opponents, including Claudia Ramirez, sued claiming the plan violated the equal protection clause, and the Supreme Court granted review.
