Based on what you have read over the course of the semester, this thinking paper will require you to analyze the portrayal of crime victims in a true crime series (e.g., Dateline 2020, Homicide Hunter, Unusual Suspects, Cold Case Files, etc.).
Using the text as evidence for your claims, you will take a position on how these portrayals affect public perception of victims and the implications for victim support services. Finally, you will provide your own reflections on how media representations of victim can be improved.
Questions that need to be answered about your selected episode:
Provide a link to the video; ( I would prefer something from netflix,peacock or hulu,)
Your source can be a streaming video from any streaming service (i.e., Netflix, Hulu, Max, Investigation Discovery, etc.)
Identify the name of the series and the name of the episode;
Identify the name of the victim;
Briefly (in one paragraph) detail the incident by which the victim came to harm (15 points);
Explain the relationship between victim and the person suspected / found to have caused the harm (10 points);
You MUST provide a timestamp or timestamps for the place where this relationship is discussed in the video;
Identify EIGHT criminological terms/phrases/theories that were used by the author over the course of the text and explain how they are EXPLICITLY relevant to the episode you have chosen (25 points per term / 200 points total); (
You MUST use at least SIX of the chapters in our text to find your EIGHT terms
This essentially means that you use one term per chapter, but only two chapters being used twice.
You CAN use one term from EIGHT chapters, if you please;
You MUST bold EACH of the terms you select to engage with in your text;
You MUST provide a short definition of the term;
You MUST cite the author for EACH term AND provide a timestamp for the place in the video that you make the connection.
