Assumption: You are the general manager of a hotel. Your hotel has 109 rooms (upper midscale hotel) and is located close to family destinations (water parks, ski slopes, etc.). The key performance indicators (KPI) data for your hotel are provided in the attached Excel file.
1. Based on the data (you can pick one–or multiple KPI data set):
(1) create a graph(s) comparing the operational outcomes of your property and your competitive set
(2) provide a descriptive summary and at least TWO suggestions to improve operational outcomes.
Tip: When creating a graph for the competitive set, you may choose to add a line/bar to the graph or create a different graph (whichever you think better demonstrates the comparison between your property and your competitive set properties).
Graph suggestions:
1. Daily
2. Day of the week
3. Monthly
4. Or any other visualization that displays an important/interesting pattern
2. Set an operational goal*** using the forecasting method of your choice (e.g., moving average, regression analysis, etc.), and (1)create a graph that visualizes the forecast, and (2) provide a brief discussion regarding how the forecast result could be used to increase the operational efficiency.
***Note: The timeline can be flexible (e.g., week, month, year, quarter, for the first week of February, etc.).
For your analysis, you can focus on a single KPI (that you think is most important/interesting) or create graphs for all three KPIs. However, remember that your summary and suggestions should be “in line” with your graphs (visualizations).
[IMPORTANT] Submit your PPT file by Monday, April 22nd, 11:59 pm, and prepare a presentation (approximately 5 minutes) to (1) show your data visualization results, (2) explain why you chose a certain type of graph, and (3) discuss your findings and analysis. You can create graphs on PPT or copy & paste the graphs from Excel. There is no length requirement, but about 4 PPT slides are expected—excluding the title slide.
PPT slide example:
Slide 1: Graph for Question 1
Slide 2: Descriptive summary and suggestions
Slide 3: Graph for Question 2
Slide 4: Discussion regarding the forecast
