ASSIGNMENT EXPLANATION
As you will learn throughout this course, social workers are employed throughout a multitude of practice areas and do even more varied activities in their day-to-day jobs. This assignment will give you an opportunity to meet and engage in conversation with a particular social worker, and learn from them about what they do, what they feel about social work education, and what advice they have for future social workers.
ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION
PART 1
You will interview a Social Worker currently in any type of Social Work practice. Your interviewee’s credentials must include BSW, LBSW, MSW, LMSW, LAPSW or LCSW. You will gather all of the information below during your interview.
Social Worker’s Name and contact information, and whether Mr. Alvarado could contact you.
What kind of degree(s) do you have, from what universities, and when did you get it?
Why did you choose Social Work as a degree and profession?
What field(s) of social work have you practiced in? Which was/is your favorite?
What field do you currently practice in, where do you work, and what do you do?
What do you enjoy/dislike about your current work?
What is the most refreshing/upsetting part of your work?
How does your timesheet or paycheck reflect the amount of time you put into your job?
Do you think your work is addressing the cause of the problems? Explain.
Do you consider yourself an activist? Why or why not? If so, in what ways?
What client populations/issues have you worked with in your career that during your social work education you never would have desired or been willing to work with?
What is different about actually practicing social work than what you were taught in your classes?
How do you separate your personal and professional life?
Have you ever had a scenario in which your personal and professional values conflicted? If so, explain.
What one statement of advice would you give to future social workers?
If you had to do it over again, would you still choose Social Work as your profession?
PART 2: 75 Points
From your gathered information, you will write a descriptive essay (not copy and paste interviewee answers) between 2-3 pages in APA format, including paraphrased content from your interviewee’s answers to each statement, references to the specific practice field, your own thoughts about the interview experience and his or her answers, and how the interview has shaped your understanding of the social work profession. Your essay should be well-organized, well-written and edited, error free, and containing each and every element listed above.This assignment should be typed in APA format including:
Double-spaced in 12-point Times New Roman or Cambria fonts
Title Page with running head, page number, and appropriate title information
Reference Page needed including your textbook as cited (but not your interviewee) and any other sources used
