About this Assignment
In this course you’ve learned about managing liability and regulatory risks in healthcare. This assignment will give you the opportunity to apply what you’ve learned and demonstrate mastery of the course objectives. You will be assessing liability (legal) and regulatory risks faced by healthcare organizations. In order for you to focus the scope of your assignment you will look specifically at risks for one of the following entities: hospitals, private medical practices, private dental practices, or a medical lab services.
You will utilize your knowledge, course resources and a minimum of five credible, outside resources to complete the assignment. Your final product will be a written narrative, addressing each of the sections in the prompt below. Your narrative should be a minimum of 2000 words in length (not including Cover Sheet and Reference Page).
Project Prompts
To begin, select which type of healthcare organization you would like to focus on: hospitals, private medical practices, private dental practices or medical lab service organizations. Review the literature/resources on this type of organization. Identify the general purpose, workings, clients, and resources for this type of organization.
Next, identify and analyze a significant regulatory risk faced by this type of organization. Consider licensure, credentialing, service provision and/or compliance with organizational, accreditation and governmental regulation. For the risk you identify discuss an accepted strategy to mitigate the risk within the type of healthcare organization you selected. Show how the research supports your mitigation strategy, and how it can successfully address the identified regulatory risks.
Then, identify and analyze a significant liability/legal risks faced by this type of organization. Consider the research regarding lawsuits, court findings and legal issues that have been prevalent for this type of healthcare organization. For the selected liability/legal risk you identify discuss an accepted strategy to mitigate this risk. Detail examples where the strategy has been accepted and successful at similar healthcare organizations.
Finally, provide a summarizing conclusion paragraph detailing how the healthcare organization type you selected could benefit from your recommended mitigation strategies. Share how these recommendations will reduce overall regulatory and legal risks; how this will improve provision of services; provider and organization liability and how this will benefit the organization overall.
