This writing assignment will be a 2-3 page sociological autobiography. Using theoretical frameworks and concepts from the readings, as well as your understanding of the Sociological Imagination, identify how your social background has influenced your understandings, connections, and beliefs about the causes of crime.
Answer the following questions in your essay:
How has your neighborhood, social class, education, race/ethnicity, gender and other social factors influenced your individual experiences (or lack) with the criminal justice system?
How has your background limited and/or enhanced your understanding, experiences, and beliefs about the causes of crime?
What criminology theory discussed this semester most aligns with your personal background and experiences? Define the theory and explain why.
How do you think your own experiences are similar and/or different from other individuals within society?
Why do you think it’s important to critically analyze your own individual background when discussing the causes of crime, and solutions to, crime within society?
You will be required to directly connect at least three course readings (such as book chapters and assigned articles) to your analysis. These connections can be in the form of examples and specific references to the course readings. Other references, such as films, news articles, or other outside sources do not count towards your three course readings.
Week 5 Essay is required to be 2-3 pages. Your essay must be formatted in Times New Roman font (size 12) and double-spaced. Please use APA citation throughout. Your works cited page is not included in your 2-3 page count.
