This assignment will replace the midterm examination. For this term paper, we will dive into arguably the hottest topic in collegiate sports: whether and how college athletic departments should pay student athletes. There are many different sides to this issue and there are also many different stakeholders involved. While you brainstorm and outline your ideas, keep the following in mind:
What benefits are currently in place for student athletes;
What benefits come with a pay-for-play system?
Should only revenue sports be considered for pay?
How does a pay-for-play system affect existing amateur/professional eligibility rules?
Consider the perspective of the colleges and what benefits they already bestow upon their student athletes; and
Consider the perspective of the student athletes and their needs;
Should we pay our college athletes? Which athletes? All athletes? Should this be voluntary? If not voluntary, what kind of mandate (NCAA/NAIA/JUCO) could be arranged to ensure fairness? 
Remember there are no right or wrong answers but please know that a well-written paper will utilize the material presented in our textbook to help validate opinions and present research. Make sure to cite your sources where needed and always write in a professional, respectful manner.
