What is a Thesis reaction paper?
A thesis reaction papers is an opportunity for you to make and defend an argument. A thesis reaction paper is NOT a summary of the reading/film (depends on what we are writing the paper on). Instead you use the reading/film to provide examples to main points/ arguments based on a general thesis that does not include a direct example from the reading/film that the reaction paper is being written on. Think of the reading/film as your “research”. You do not need outside research!
Example of paper format:
Introduction
Thesis last sentence (this should be something that not everyone agrees upon, it should insight to a certain point an argument)
Cannot be based directly on the video or reading(s)!
Body paragraph #1

Followed by an example from reading/film (only 1 quick example)
Next point that is related to your first argument
Followed by an example from reading/film (only 1 quick example)
Concluding sentence bring both points together and ties back into thesis statement
Body paragraph #2

Where do I begin?
Examine either a film or reading assignment. If you find yourself thinking “Dang that is so true” or “What the heck,” then that is probably what you should be addressing in your paper. Do NOT try to address everything of interest, especially in a short reaction paper. Find an interesting argument to make and then defend it.
Paper requirements:
Thesis statement
All papers must have a thesis statement. A thesis statement is an argument/hypothesis that you will support/prove in the body of your paper. This should be the last sentence in your introduction. It should NOT be a statement of fact nor a quote.
Sample thesis: It is therefore suggested that alternative and more severe sanctions be considered by the criminal justice system when working with mentally ill offenders.
Sample thesis: Teens join gangs in search of stability and affection and end up trapped in a hollow future riddled with pain, despair, and loneliness.
A thesis will let the reader know the argument and the orientation towards the argument and the conclusion that your paper will prove.
Example: The police academy fails officers when it comes to their curriculum.

Some notes about grading:
The first thing I will look at is whether you met the length and paper format requirements. If not, you will fail to earn credit. Grammar and clarity are next aspect that will be examined. The next thing I will look for you is your thesis statement. If you do not have a thesis statement, you have no argument to prove and thus cannot accomplish the goal of the paper. Remember, your thesis statement should include the reading or movie- it needs to be a general argument. Think of the movie or readings as your research to support your general arguments concerning and proving your thesis statement.
If these are missing, you will not earn credit for the
