The readings for Weeks 6-12 offer different critical perspectives of global
urban development. For this question, pick one of these perspectives – e.g.,
migration and urban development (Week 6), urban political ecology (Week
7), race and ethnicity (Week 8), etc. – and use the readings from that week to
provide a critical analysis of an issue of your choice related to global urban
development (i.e., a case study topic). Your task is to use the theoretical
perspective you choose as a lens/framework for reflecting on your case
study, and your goal is to analyse and provide insight into both the theory
and your case study. Your analysis may likely lead you to critique some of the
authors you cite: that is absolutely fine. Again, a strong essay is one that
shows good understanding of the readings and keen analysis with respect to
your case study.
The purpose of this assignment is to develop the following skills: critical analysis
of urban development; writing, expression, and communication; independent
research; specific and focused knowledge of urban development.
You will be marked on the following criteria:

– Does your essay make a clear argument and show good structure? (20%)
– Does your essay reflect good background research (e.g., drawing on
class readings and lecture material, and/or outside readings when
