• After creating the Genogram, write a 3-5 page paper applying the concepts from
the content of this course to your reflections on your family and genogram.
o Analyze your family and identify family patterns to understand how the
themes and interactional patterns are transmitted across generational
lines. (There does not have to be a problem or secrets discovered in your
family; everyday challenges/issues are okay).
o Identify patterns (healthy or unhealthy) in your family of origin and how they
have influenced you as an adult, and how they will impact safe and
effective use of self as a therapist.
o Identify qualities and strengths in your family of origin and how they
enriched your adult life.
o Reflect on how, in the light of your family of origin study, you understand
yourself, your current relational patterns, and the impact of those patterns
on you as a therapist.
o Include your Genogram on a separate sheet. This is not included in the
page requirement for the paper.
o Requirements of the final product (e.g., page count, references, etc.): APA
paper, 3-5 pages, at least 3 additional resources outside of the required
readings.
