You need to submit an analytical paper that discusses a specific topic in social movements and contentious politics, for instance, Black Lives Matter or the Arab Spring. The paper can focus on the causes, the processes, the outcomes, or any other aspects of the selected topic. It should present a clear argument based on theories related to the course and supported by evidence drawn from diverse sources. It needs to demonstrate a broad understanding of contentious politics and the ability to critically assess different viewpoints and perspectives.
The paper should be 10 to 12 pages long excluding the bibliography, and double-spaced. It is also required to use neutral language and have proper citations (minimum of 5 references to external academic sources plus 5 references to other sources). Please refer to the syllabus for policies regarding academic conduct and use of generative AI.
I will include references to specific political science theories that should be included in some capacity, or as the structure of the essay.
