Introduction (1-2 pages)
a) Introduce the topic (1 paragraph)
b) State the importance/relevance of your topic (1-2 paragraphs)
E.g., include stats showing the prevalence of the problem, what the major trends are, whom might be affected, and any other stats you deem fit.
d) Introduce your work and paper in it’s entirely, and state your research question(s) (1 paragraph)
E.g., “This work examines how constitutional sheriffs use online spaces to construct issues pertaining to immigration at the U.S. Southwest Border. The work is concerned with answering one main research question: “what narratives dominate among constitutional sheriffs regarding the construction of the perceived “border crisis?” Blalock’s power threat theory is used to guide the work and critical discourse analysis is used to analyze the discourse and narratives from the sheriffs collected for the purposes of this study. Below, I present literature regarding constitutional sheriffs, the sociopolitical situation at the U.S. Southwest Border, and recent trends in discriminatory practices by law enforcement agencies. Furthermore, I present the methods used to investigate how sheriffs construct issues related to immigration. I end with a discussion on the various policy implications of the work, specifically to how discriminatory and simplified rhetoric can lead to the adaptation of, and mainstreaming of exclusionary speech among the public.”
2) Main Body (3-4 pages)
Effectively convey the literature that you are using to answer your research question(s).
Your literature will be the work you collected and analyzed in your annotated bibliography, and any other resources you have obtained since.
You must cite the sources (citation style is your choice) from which you obtained the information.
Must be written in paragraph format.
3) Discussion (1-2 pages)
a) This is an evaluation of the work.
Describe what you learned in the process, perhaps evaluate which research your reviewed that is helpful and which less so (1/2-1 page).
Describe some limitations in your study. What did you NOT consider in your work but could be important to consider later? For example, if your topic is the aftermath of terrorism – ask yourself whether there are more factors at play than what you were able to discuss and present in your paper. Discuss some of those factors in your discussion (1/2-1 page).
4) Conclusion (1/2 page)
Conclude the work
5) References
Self-explanatory
NOTES:
This outline is a suggestion for how you could write this work. It is by no means the only way to do it. Please use this as guidance only.
Consider using headings and subheadings throughout the manuscript.
Write in paragraph style.
Use citations often.
You can use any citation style as you like. To help clarify when you need to include citations, here is an example:
“Scholars note that far-right extremist groups in the U.S. and Europe pose a grave threat to national security (NEED CITATION). For instance, one study found a 320 % rise in far-right terrorism incidents in the West between 2013 and 2018 (NEED CITATION).
If you are using APA formatting, correct citation would be: (Author(s) last name, year of publication): E.g., (Oesteraas, 2023).
