This evidence-based assignment is comprised of two main parts:
1. Written and 2. PowerPoint presentation.
For this research project, you will be required to write an 8–10-page, evidence-based paper
(excluding title and reference pages) utilizing a minimum of 12 credible, scholarly sources.
Your paper should be double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman font, and should follow
APA style (7th Edition) formatting. Detailed instructions are as follows:
I. Written Component:
Part 1: Choose a health-related condition, disorder, or disease of public health significance
to a specific population. Provide a clear and convincing rationale for your chosen topic
and population by discussing any relevant background information, as well as the
epidemiology of the health condition/disorder/disease (i.e., risk factors, occurrence, and
distribution of disease in a defined population). Next, identify and discuss the biochemical
basis of the condition/disorder/disease (i.e., biological and genetic factors that can affect
disease risk), and any relevant biostatistics and utilization. Finally provide a discussion of
what you’ve identified as the underlying social determinants of your chosen
condition/disorder/disease. Identify and discuss any relevant socio-cultural, psycho-social,
political, and/or economic determinants that have been found to impact your chosen
population, as well. Be sure to also address disparities/inequities in your discussion of
social determinants. (Maximum 5 pages)
Part 2: Based on the information found and analysis made in Part 1, give a synopsis and
subsequent critique of existing policy interventions relating to your identified health
condition/disorder/disease. Next, develop and propose an evidence-based public health
policy solution aimed at reducing and/or preventing negative health consequences of your
6
identified condition/disorder/disease in the population specified in Part 1. Please be sure
to include cultural competence as a component of your policy solution and describe how
might awareness and application of cultural norms, values, and practices enhance your
policy intervention. (Maximum 5 pages)
I. Corresponding PowerPoint Presentation (Slides only)
Additionally, on the same date, (April 26th, 2024 ) you will be required to submit an original
PowerPoint presentation summarizing the data from your research paper. The
presentation should be between 15-20 slides long, should utilize graphics/visuals as
professionally appropriate, and should be a succinct but thorough presentation of key
points made in your research paper. Be sure to include a reference slide at the end of your
presentation. Additional instructions/guidelines to be disseminated.
Please be sure to obtain approval for your chosen research topic from your professor. Each
student should try to select a different topic and/or populations. You will have until Week 4
of the semester to communicate your chosen health topic and population to your professor
via CougarView for approval.
Assessment of the final paper will be based on the following:
Quality and clarity of argumentation
Originality, novelty, logic, and coherence of the proposed plan
